Caroline Bauman serves as Chalkbeat Tennessee's community editor and writes about Tennessee schools. Bauman has a masters degree from the University of Missouri as a Thurgood Marshall Fellow. She started her education career at a middle school in Prince George's County, MD via Teach For America, where she learned that 7th graders teach the best life lessons. She graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in psychology. In her spare time, she enjoys running, cooking and wrestling with the extreme difficulty of choosing a favorite character on "The Office".

Shaina Cavazos is a staff reporter for Chalkbeat Indiana. She holds a master’s degree from the Missouri School of Journalism. She has worked as a K-12 education reporter for the Columbia Missourian and a business reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. At the Missourian, she wrote about Common Core and literacy, among other education topics. She graduated magna cum laude with bachelor’s degrees in economics and journalism from the University of Missouri. For Chalkbeat she covers state standards, testing, teaching and other state and local issues.
Philissa Cramer is managing editor of Chalkbeat. She previously co-founded GothamSchools, now Chalkbeat New York, and was its bureau chief until 2014. Before moving to Detroit in 2014, she was the Deputy Managing Editor for politics at the New York Daily News where she previously served as City Hall Bureau Chief and covered the nation’s largest public school system. She’s also worked for Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News. Einhorn is the author of the 2008 memoir The Pages In Between: A Holocaust Legacy of Two Families, One Home, which was published by Simon & Schuster. The book chronicles the year she spent living in Poland, getting to know the family that rescued her mother as a hidden child during World War II.

Nicholas Garcia is the Deputy Bureau Chief for Chalkbeat Colorado. Before joining Chalkbeat in October 2013, he was the editor of Out Front, a statewide LGBT magazine. Garcia first began covering education for a student produced supplemental publication, Images, produced by students for The Pueblo Chieftain. He wrote about district policies and how board decisions impacted his schools. Today, Garcia covers Jeffco Public Schools and Aurora Public Schools.

Ann Schimke is Chalkbeat Colorado’s healthy schools reporter. Schimke launched her journalism career as a copy aide, eventually becoming a freelance writer for The Washington Post in 1997. In 2000, she moved to Michigan and became the primary K-12 education reporter at The Ann Arbor News, covering issues ranging from school re-segregation to the impact of the No Child Left Behind Act. After covering education issues for five years, Schimke went on to earn a master’s degree in education policy from the University of Michigan. Subsequently, she worked as a family advocate in Ann Arbor, helping homeless students in several area districts access transportation, financial assistance and academic help.
